Using Symbolic Computation in Buckling Analysis
نویسندگان
چکیده
Asymptotic buckling analysis of elastic structures can be considered a well established procedure (Budiansky, 1974) . It consists in bifurcation analysis of a system of oneparameter differential equations: balance, compatibility and constitutive equations . The aim of this work was to experiment with the use of automatic symbolic computation in the asymptotic bifurcation analysis of elastic beams . To this end an application of the system REDUCE (Hearn, 1971) has been devised in particular for (a) the generation of the formal perturbation equations and (b) the construction of a procedure for solving a specific problem . Further details can be found in Rizzi & Tatone (1985) . A first assessment of the use of symbolic computation systems in structural mechanics can be found in Noor & Andersen (1979), while another application to the solution of perturbation problems is in Noor & Balch (1984) .

Symbolic computation of the Duggal transform
Following the results of cite{Med}, regarding the Aluthge transform of polynomial matrices, the symbolic computation of the Duggal transform of a polynomial matrix $A$ is developed in this paper, using the polar decomposition and the singular value decomposition of $A$. Thereat, the polynomial singular value decomposition method is utilized, which is an iterative algorithm with numerical charac...

Understanding how a cutout influences the load bearing capacity and buckling behavior of cylindrical shells is fundamental in the design of structural components used in automobiles, aircrafts, and marine structures. In this article, simulation and analysis of steel cylindrical shells with various lengths, include quasi elliptical cutout, subjected to axial compression were systematically carri...
متن کاملA Modification on Applied Element Method for Linear Analysis of Structures in the Range of Small and Large Deformations Based on Energy Concept
In this paper, the formulation of a modified applied element method for linear analysis of structures in the range of small and large deformations is expressed. To calculate deformations in the structure, the minimum total potential energy principle is used. This method estimates the linear behavior of the structure in the range of small and large deformations, with a very good accuracy and low...
متن کاملNONLINEAR POST-BUCKLING ANALYSIS OF ISOTROPIC PLATES BY USING FINITE STRIP METHODS
ABSTRACT This paper presents the theoretical developments of two finite strip methods (i.e. semi-analytical and full-analytical) for the post-buckling analysis of isotropic plates. In the semi-analytical finite strip approach, all the displacements are postulated by the appropriate shape functions while in the development process of the full-analytical approach, the Von-Karman’s equilibrium equ...
متن کاملBuckling Analysis of Rectangular Laminated Composite Plates With An Edge Delamination Under Compressive Load
The buckling analysis of rectangular laminated composite plates with an edge delamination under in-plane compressive loading is performed using the finite element method. Such a plate may be considered as a simplified model of stiffener plates of a stiffened panel. The buckling load and buckling mode are obtained by solving an eigenproblem. In an unconstrained analysis, physically inadmissible ...
